Pastoral Team

The Pastoral Team provide a complementary service to teachers and classroom support, addressing the needs of children who need support to overcome barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential. The team are also here to support parents/carers. They can:

• support the child's emotional well-being
• promote the skills needed to parents/carers for positive behaviour management
• understanding and supporting the child's learning
• support for parents/carers of children with additional or complex needs
• general support and advice and a listening ear!
• Attendance support
• direct parent/carers to external support services where appropriate
• support children and families who may have involvement of Local Authority Children’s Social Care

Nurture support at Welholme Academy

This can take the form of working with children, in a group or one to one, who may need support with social, emotional, mental health or communication needs. Some children find coping with the expectations of the curriculum a challenge sometimes and we will support with this. Some children may need a ‘check in’ with a trusted adult or just someone to show they care.

Some children, for whatever reason, may have gaps in personal and social skill development and need help with this. Focussed children are given opportunities to develop and practise skills and attributes in a calm and supportive environment. This can include focus work around:

• cooperating, engaging, focussing, attending to, interacting, turn taking, listening, being considerate etc
• communicating in a variety of ways and developing language and expression
• understanding and applying emotions in themselves and others
• expressing views and opinions and listening to the views and opinions of others
• developing life skills and being able to manage in an ever-changing world.
• coping with change and transition
• coping with and managing a challenge
• developing empathy and consideration for others

This is delivered in a variety of ways including Lego Club, Gardening Club, Lunch Club, Makaton Club, ELSA and other small group interventions, depending on the need of the child/group. Small focussed support groups are also provided within the year groups.

Attendance

Attendance is monitored in school by Miss Reynolds and our Education Welfare Officer Mrs L Swinburne. (Please refer to Welholme Academy’s Attendance Policy for more information around monitoring procedures)

Good attendance is celebrated every week in assembly and the class with the highest percentage receives a class treat.

At the end of each term, every child with 100% attendance will be celebrated in assembly and presented with a certificate. Every half-term, parents will receive information about their child's current attendance rate.

Any child who has 96% or above attendance at the end of each term will receive a reward. At the end of each academic year, all children who have achieved 96% attendance across the whole year are rewarded with a visit to the cinema. All those with 100% will receive a gift voucher and will be put into a prize draw for a significant prize eg a bicycle, a mini Ipad.
