Welcome to Year 5!
Miss Cochrane, Mrs Harrison, Mrs Riggs, Miss Sweet, Mrs MacLennan, Mrs Crookes and Mrs French welcome you to Year 5. We hope your child has a happy and successful year with us. If you have any concerns or issues that you need to speak to us about, please do not hesitate to come into school.
School Topic for Autumn Term
Our whole school topic this autumn will be ‘Oh, I do like to be the seaside….’
Year 5 will be focusing on a river’s journey to the sea. We will also be looking at local rivers – including a trip to the Humber Bridge - and rivers around the world.
We will be discovering the mystery of the Marie Celeste and discussing the sinking of the Titanic and identifying the reasons that led to its downfall.
Homework and Remarkable Readers
Everyone in Year 5 will be given 1 piece of homework to complete every week. This will either be some maths, literacy or topic based work and will be given out on a Thursday. This will need to be handed in by the following Wednesday.
Mrs Harrison is also running a homework club on Thursday lunchtime for children who would rather ‘get it out of the way!’ Children who do not do their homework will have to complete it during golden on Friday.
The new school policy regarding reading practice is to read 5 times each week for 30 minutes. Children should bring reading records every day to be checked. Children who have not read at least 5 times a week will miss some of their golden time to make up for this.
